Skimming
Skimming can refers to over skimming an old wall, or a newly plaster boarded wall. This is a popular method of providing a smooth, seamless surface ready to receive decorative treatment. Skimming has a quick drying time compared with two coat plastering
Dot & Dab
Dot and dab is a means of sticking a plasterboard direct to internal walls instead of having a two coat plaster finish. This does not have the same thermal properties as two coat plastering, but it is a quicker, cleaner way to plaster solid walls.
Pointing
Re-pointing is the process of renewing mortar joints in masonry construction. Over time, weathering and decay cause voids in the joints allowing Water to enter causing significant damage through frost weathering.
Rendering
Rendering is the application of a premixed layer of sand and cement or lime to brick, cement, stone. It is often textured, coloured or painted after application. It is generally used on exterior walls but can be used to feature an interior wall.
Two Coat Plasteing
Two coat plastering is not quite what it sounds like. When a plasterer talk's about two coat plastering, a "coat" refers to two layers of the same plaster. So when "two COAT plastering" you are putting on four layer's of plaster. Two for the undercoat/bonding layer and two layers for the finishing plaster. This takes longer to do and longer to dry than dot & dab, but is more insulating/ energy efficient.
Partition Walling
A partition wall is a wall for the purpose of separating rooms, or dividing a room. Partition walls are usually not load-bearing. Wooden framework either supported on the floor below or by side walls. plaster boards are then fitted to reinforce the partition wall, and skimmed.
Decorating
Painting and decorating of buildings. The purpose of painting is to improve the aesthetic of a building and to protect it from damage by water, rust, corrosion, insects and mould.
Skirting Boards
